IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dianne Kay
Coovert
October 26, 1947 – July 19, 2025
Rapid City – Dianne Kay Coovert, 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City.
Dianne was born in Volga, SD, to Arend and Helen Johnson on October 26, 1947. She was the youngest of thirteen siblings: brothers Leroy, Roger, Marlin, Don, Bobby Jr., and Gordon; and her sisters Arlene, Virginia, Beverly, Phyllis, Carol, Delores, and Mavis.
Dianne graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1965. That same year, on October 23, she married Earl Coovert at St. Martin's in Huron. Shortly after, Earl joined the United States Air Force. During this time, Dianne cared for their daughter, Angela. Once her husband's service ended, he attended Huron College, where they both managed the bookstore.
Following Earl's graduation, the Coovert family moved to Crownpoint, IN, where Dianne's second daughter, Ann Marie, was born. Dianne was the first to give birth in the new hospital her husband had helped to open. Devoted to her family, Dianne later lived in Wheaton, IL, and Marietta, GA, where her son Joshua was born before eventually settling in Rapid City. There, she worked in insurance and contributed to the family healthcare supply business, Western Hills.
Later, she devoted herself to her four grandchildren and ran "Grammy's Daycare." She loved spending time with them, often running around to keep up with their energy. Dianne was always happy to help with their schoolwork and cherished every moment she could share with them.
Dianne was a proud South Dakotan who had a passion for genealogy, researching, and tracing her family's roots back to the Dakota Territory. In 2023, she earned Pioneer certificates from the Sioux Valley Genealogical Society. The Johnson family reunions were a cherished tradition, and she was incredibly computer-savvy.
Dianne is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Earl Coovert; daughters Ann Marie (David) Holst of Hines, OR, and Angela (Michael) Rafferty of Rapid City; son Joshua Coovert, also of Rapid City; grandsons Jacob and Dylan Holst; granddaughters Allie and Sydney Bradsky; sister Carol (Eudale) Ringgaard of Brookings, SD; brother Leroy Johnson of Peoria, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Vigil service, with time to share memories of Dianne and pray the Rosary, will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4500 Jackson Blvd, Rapid City, SD 57702, on Thursday, July 24, from 5:00pm-6:30pm.
