Dick was born in Lead/Deadwood, South Dakota March 14, 1949. He was raised by his mother Evelynn Heidepriem and Virgil "Doc" Van Heuvelen. The Van Heuvelen family was unique in their own right and they enjoyed many years and countless laughs at the Fairview house, with an "open door" policy, welcomed friends created memories that have lasted a lifetime.
Dick was a man who did things his way. Those who know him well, know exactly what we are saying. Courageous, zealous, outspoken, there was never a dull moment in his presence. His friends span far and wide and they loved him for him. Jess Lukens was his tried-and-true brother and the Van Heuvelen's give our upmost respect to their friendship and all others that have stuck by his side during his lifetime.
He has a true passion for fishing, and he found peace being out in the Black Hills. His love for his cats was something out of this world and he was thankful for each of them. Dick truly had a heart of gold and would go to great lengths to share his love and support in his later years.
Dick faced and battled liver cancer head on for the past year and passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving children.
