RAPID CITY- Donald Dale Beebe, 92, longtime resident and businessman in Rapid City, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at his home in Henderson, Nevada.
Memorial Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, Nov. 3, at the First Assembly of God, 4905 Mt. Rushmore Road (S Hwy 16 Service Road) in Rapid City.
Inurnment, with military honors, will be at 1:00 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Donald was born December 31, 1924 at Beebe Island (which is now under the water at Pickstown Dam, South Dakota to Chester and Elsie (Wright) Beebe.
Beings Donald's parents were ministers, they traveled to several towns to start churches, so Donald attended schools in Burton, NE; Springfield, NE; and he graduated from Nebraska City, NE in 1942.
Donald entered the Army for World War II in 1942. He and his brother, Wayne, were both in basic training in Texas. Donald went to the Pacific and was involved in the "island hopping" liberations. He was a medic in the Army and always said he enjoyed "giving the shots" to new recruits. He would lay out the biggest needles he could find and watch the "big guys melt." He was honorably discharged from the Army in December, 1945.
Donald went to North Central Bible College in Minneapolis to study for the ministry for several years. He transferred to North West Bible College in Seattle. In 1948, he received his license to preach from the Nebraska District Council of the Assemblies of God Church.
His brother, Wayne, was the administrator at a nursing home in Twin Falls, ID and he was killed in a plane crash and because Don was a medic in the Army, the owners asked Don to take over as Administrator. Therefore, Don entered the nursing home business in 1955. He owned and operated nursing homes in Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota. He was involved in writing health regulations for the state of South Dakota and was Vice President and President of State Health Associating in the 1970's. He was appointed to a State Health Board by Gov. Kneip. Don retired from nursing home business in 1984.
For the next 20 years, Don and his wife, Rose traveled the entire United States in their RV. They enjoyed every state they were in.
Donald married Dorothy Rhoades in 1942 and they had four children. He married Rose Schlaffman in May, 1979.
He is survived by his wife Rose, Henderson, NV; two sons: Chet (Judy) Beebe, Nampa, ID; Wayne (Fairrie) Beebe, Pocatello, ID; daughter, Rebecca (Ray) Niederworder, Rapid City, SD; two step sons; Scott Schlaffman, Winsted, MN; Chris (Christina) Schlaffman, Henderson, NV; two step daughters, Deb (Jim) Meyer, Rapid City, SD; Kathy (Kevin) Haberstroh, Rapid City, SD; one brother, Dean (Nancy) Beebe, Gainsville, TX.; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grand children and 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, one grandson, two sisters, and two brothers.
