Donald Clay Smith, 71, Hay Springs, NE, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Veterans Affairs Black Hills Health Care Center in Hot Springs, SD. Donald was born September 23, 1937 to Seth A. Smith and Ruby J. Smith in Hawk Springs, WY. Don was the youngest of four children. Don graduated from Hawk Springs, WY. He entered the Navy in 1956. He married Patricia Ann Walker in 1956. Patricia preceded Donald in death on April 1, 1998. Donald married Barbara Ainslie of Kadoka, SD in September 1998. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith, Hay Springs, NE, Sons; Ryan Dean Smith of Dallas, TX, and Gary Lee Smith of Phoenix, AZ. Daughter, Cynthia Ann Vallette of Rapid City, SD, and 7 Grandchildren and a Great Grandchild. Step-Children; Joe Allen, Rapid City, SD. and Rosanna Hill, Box Elder. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin, sister, Ida, and brother, Eugene. Services will be held, 1:00 pm, Monday, December 29, 2008 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273. A memorial has been established by the family.
