Rapid City - Donald Don E. Fraser, 88, died Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center at Fort Meade, SD.
Donald Eugene Fraser was born to Floyd L. and Irene N. (Fusselman) Fraser at home on the farm near Mitchell, SD on February 4, 1930. His only brother John was born six years later on February 4. Don went to country schools thru the 8 th grade and graduated in 1948 from Mitchell High School. He met Mavis Matteson in 1952 and they were married on February 7, 1953 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Their first son Daniel was born in 1954 and Don was drafted into the United States Army at that time. Their first daughter Vicki was born at Ft. Carson, Colorado. When released from the service in 1956 they returned to the farm south of Mitchell where their next daughter Cindy and son Kevin was born.
Don and Mavis moved to Rapid City in 1979 where Don enjoyed different jobs until 2017. They enjoyed fishing and camping for many years. Don was an ex-farmer and handy-man all of his life.
Don is survived by his wife Mavis of almost 66 years; four children: Dan Fraser of Gillette, WY, Vicki (Scott) Triggs of Black Hawk, Cindy (Mike) Robinson of Mitchell, and Kevin (Leslie) Frazer of Huron; 10 grandchildren and spouses: Jason (Melissa) Fraser, Nick (Amy) Fraser, Pat (Ashley) Fraser, John (Susie) Robinson, Melanie (Derrick) Mac Donald, C.J. (Stephanie) Robinson, Keri (Kris) James, Roberta (Chris) Baldwin, David (Shalene) Bucklin, and Beau (Anna) Fraser; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; one brother: John Fraser of Sioux Falls; two sister-in-laws: Maxine Hohback of Plankinton and Norma Moller of Rapid City; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandchild Emily Fraser; one sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-laws.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, January 21 with a Liturgical Wake Service at 6:00 pm all at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 am Tuesday, January 22 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Burial will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 22 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice at the VA at Fort Meade.
