RAPID CITY- Donald LeRoy Haugan, 91, died Monday, August 31, 2015 from complications of a femur fracture. He was born June 2, 1924 in Clearbrook, MN to Ernest Luther Haugan and Florence (Paulson) Haugan. Growing up, Donald enjoyed helping his maternal grandparents on their farm near Clearbrook. He graduated high school in Clearbrook, MN. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in April, 1943 during World War II. He served in the Philippines and New Guinea as a radio repairman. He was honorably discharged in January, 1946. He met his future wife, the late Irene (Behm) Haugan on a blind date in Grand Forks, ND. They were united in marriage on May 13, 1960 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Donald, Irene, and the family moved to Rapid City in 1965. Over the years Donald worked as a salesman with Groves-Kelco; at the Physical Plant at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and as a groundskeeper at Summit Co. He loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees and enjoyed Fox news, politics, and weather. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Behm) Haugan and infant twin daughter, Melinda Haugan. Survivors include his son: Mike (Sandy) Haugan and grandson, Casey Haugan, of Keller, TX; daughter, Melissa Haugan, Rapid City. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2015 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Jones, Pastor Dave Lindenberg, and Pastor Paul Winckler officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at Black Hills National Cemetery.
