RAPID CITY Donald H. Malon, 84, Rapid City, died Thursday Oct. 14, 2010 at the VA Medical Center at Ft. Meade. Don was born in St. Paul, MN March 29, 1926. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946. He moved to Rapid City in 1970 with his family and started Malon Insulation Service in 1972. Don retired in 1990 to spend all his time with his loving wife Kathy and all his children and grandchildren. Don loved to fish, hunt, shop for bargains at rummage sales, occasionally gamble in Deadwood and play cards and games with family and friends. Big was loved by everyone that knew him and you could always count on his sage advice and counsel in times of need. Survivors include his wife of 59 years Kathy, two sons Steve (Cindy) and Mike both of Rapid City, two daughters Sandi Weinmaster (David) of Rapid City and Michelle Carda (Kevin) of Miles City, MT, six grandchildren and one great grandchild and a brother, Harvey Malon, Rapid City. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with a Christian wake service following at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard, will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
