Obituary

Rapid City / Donald E. Thrall, 78, was called home to the Lord, Monday, August 10, 2015, surrounded by his family. Don was born on May 26, 1937, to Herbert and Caroline Thrall in Huron, SD. After graduating from Huron High School, he attended St. John's Nursing School where he graduated with a degree in nursing. While at St. John's Don met the love of his life, Regena. Don and Regena were married on February 13, 1960 and spent 55 years in loving marriage. Don began his career as a nurse anesthetist and soon moved into the field of hospital administration while working in Miller, SD. Don was the Hospital Administrator at St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood, SD for 18 years. He continued his career in the health field and became the Vice President of Networking at Rapid City Regional Hospital in 1987. It was during this time that Don led the implementation of the Family Practice Residency Program and Clinic in 1994. He was Director of Rapid City Community Health Center and instrumental in locating it in north Rapid City. He was also Director and President of the South Dakota Hospital Association. Don retired from Rapid City Regional Hospital in 1999 after 40 years of a fulfilling and rewarding career in the health services field. In retirement, he continued to enjoy his many hobbies, including his passion for photography, fly fishing and bird hunting and traveling with Regena to Arizona with friends in the winter months. Don was an active member of Our Lady of the Black Hills. Don is survived by his wife, Regena, Rapid City, SD; 3 sons, Brian (Karla), West Richland, WA; Brad (Patricia), Blaine, WA; Mark (Sherri), Gillette, WY; 3 daughters, Kim Archer (Rich) Marquette, NE; Cindy LaCroix (Todd) Rapid City, SD, Susan Burr (Bill) Belle Fourche, SD; 2 brothers, Jim (Anne), Spring Grove IL, Bob (Dee) Lead, SD, 1 sister, Mary Deibert (Roy) Rapid City, SD; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Priscilla Weidauer and parents Herbert and Caroline Thrall. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 12, followed by Christian Prayer Vigil at Our Lady of the Black Hills, 12365 Sturgis Road, Piedmont, SD. Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday Aug 13 at Our Lady of the Black Hills with Rev. Steve Biegler as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at Mt.
