Donna Jeannine (Hodgin) Best, 80, of Rapid City died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at her home. She was born April 28, 1930 in Chamberlain to Charles and Stella Hodgin. She graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1948 and moved to Rapid City in 1952 after meeting her future husband while visiting a cousin who lived there. She married Lloyd Best in Rapid City on January 25, 1954. They lived in Rapid City and raised two children, Michael and Doris. Donna worked for C.P. Clare Electronics Firm for 10 years. She also worked at Landstroms Original Black Hills Gold Creations for 15 years, retiring in June 1995. Donna was a life-member of the 1273rd Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She also prided herself on being a Room Mother while her children were in grade school and was involved in the local Parent Teacher Association for approximately 10 years. She was also a Den Mother for her sons Cub Scout Pack from 1958 to 1960 and a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters troop from 1960 to 1965. Donna enjoyed gardening, reading, spending time with family and friends, going to the movies, and using her computer. She also enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean, the Balkan Islands, and Mexico. Donna is survived by her husband, Lloyd, Rapid City; son, Mike (Julie) Best, Sioux Falls; daughter, Doris (Duane) Houser, Rapid City; sister, Lorraine Leheska, Pukwana; special friend, Eila Logan, Rapid City; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Stella Hodgin, and her brother Danny Hodgin. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb., 1, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Herb Cleveland officiating. Private interment will be in Black Hills National Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at Rushmore VFW Post 1273 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rapid City Chapter (1273) of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 420 Main St., Rapid City, SD 57701.
