RAPID CITY--Donna Mae Woodle, 89, of Rapid City, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 9, 2009 Donna Woodle led an adventurous life, the amazing details of which continue to trickle down to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the form of fond remembrances. Being one of these grandchildren, I cannot speak directly to the glorious days of her youth during which she attended Black Hills State College, was a schoolteacher in Wall, S.D. and a stewardess for Western Airlines in California, but I can briefly speak to her later life. She was, to be blunt, the ideal grandmother. Grandma managed, through some sheer feat of wisdom, to be everpresent, all-knowing and supportive without hovering, being condescending or overbearing. She was always prepared with a kind word or freshly baked cookie at hand, but frequently had both. She loved her family, all of us, and we loved her and there can be no better a valediction. Donna Woodle of Rapid City, 89, was born Donna Mae, daughter of Warren and Grace Owens. She was preceded in death by her husband Lavere, they married on July 3rd 1947, and her brother Eugene. She is survived by her children: Gene, Larry, Nancy and Kim, their spouses: Sharon, Bill and Joanne, her grandchildren: Jesse, Janie, Lacey, Nate, Nic, Sherri, Holly, John, Kyle, Alex and Madeleine, and her great-grandchildren: Cali, Natalie, Maeve and Bailey. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kenneth Cragg officiating; a luncheon will follow. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Her online guestbook is available at www.osheimschmidt.com.
