Obituary

Doris Mae Dull RAPID CITY - Doris Mae Dull, 89, Rapid City, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a short period of declining health. Doris was born May 23, 1919, in Columbus, Mont., the daughter of Willard and Edna (Rosean) Holt, and raised on a homestead in the Limestone area near Nye, Mont. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1936 then attended Billings Business College. She worked for the Federal Land Bank in Billings and met her future husband, George Dull. They were married in Billings in 1939 and had two children, Dick and Janet, during their time together. After George's death, Doris married Harry (Ed) Dull on Dec. 24, 1953. In addition to Ed's daughter, Pat, they had three more children, Jim, Bob and Anne. Doris had a full time job caring for her six children. From 1960 to 1990 she also was the bookkeeper, manager of the Boy Scout department and seamstress and cap/uniform lettering expert for the family business, Du-Ell Sporting Goods in Rapid City. Doris was a long-time and active member of the First Congregational Church, American Business Women, Eastern Star and Cosmopolitan Pals. She loved to read, play bridge, visit with friends, participate in church activities and loved all things "pink." In addition, there were not many crossword puzzles that she could not master in record time. Doris loved to cook and always had room at her table for another plate, as can be attested to by her numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who could always arrange to arrive for a visit at meal time. She leaves behind many wonderful friends and her family that includes her husband, Ed Dull; three daughters, Pat Sime of Rapid City, Janet and Earl (Mac) McArthur of Spearfish, and Anne and Randy Wooledge of Sioux Falls; three sons, Dick and Margie Dull of Borrego Springs, CA, Jim and Bea Dull of Avondale, AZ, and Bob and Jackie Dull of Alpine, UT; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Millie. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the Osheim-Schmidt Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the First Congregational Church, 1200 Clark Street, Rapid City, with the Rev. Ted Huffman officiating. A private family internment will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Memorials may be made in her name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the First Congregational Church, with donations specifically dedicated to create a "Grandma's Corner" in the nursery.
