Doris Leck passed away peacefully on June 26th at the Hospice House in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Doris was born in Stickney, South Dakota, on August 15, 1923, to her parents, Josephine Claussen and Edgar Durfey, the 6th of 8 children. She and her family lived in Stickney for eleven years. Prior to her senior year, the family moved to Dakota, Illinois, where she graduated from high school.

On November 17, 1941 Doris married the “love of her life”, Donald Leck. Daughter, Barbara and son, Allen were born while residing in Orangeville, IL. In 1950, they moved to Menno, SD, where they operated a gas station and café. In 1955, they made the move that they had dreamed about. They moved to Rapid City and the Black Hills.

While living in Rapid, Doris worked at several retail locations such as Donaldson’s, Kresge’s, and Haggerty’s. Following that, she and Don opened Leck’s Clutter Corner, which they owned for five years. They both retired to live in Silver City, where they resided for 18 years. Probably the best years of their life. Because of some health issues, they sold their home in Silver and moved to the Jackson Heights High Rise. Don was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and eventually relocated to a nursing home. Doris remained in their apartment for a few years, where she continued to visit Don virtually every day. She then decided to move into Fairmont Grand and then eventually to There’s A Hart. Both of these homes provided her with the best care and love.

Don and Doris were truly soul mates! Their 70 years together was an example of true love.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers Joe, Charles, Edgar, and Willis and three sisters Lucille, Muriel and Fern.

She is survived by children Barbara (Stanley), Allen (Linda); Grandchildren; Tami Larson, Todd Peden, Troy Peden, Erin Leck, Thomas Peden, Ashlee DuPont, 22 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice House, Rapid City, SD in memory of Doris Leck.
