IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Lorraine
Lind
March 30, 1929 – January 25, 2024
Doris S. Lind passed away on January 25, 2024 at Westhills Village Healthcare. She was born on March 30, 1929 in Anselmo, Nebraska to Avery and Merle (Lindly) Scott. Wanting to really spread their wings, they moved to the big city of Morrill, NE where she met her husband Robert L Lind. They had two daughters, Becky and Lori.
She began her teaching career in Hawk Springs, WY. She continued this career when they moved to Rapid City, teaching for 40+ years. She built life-long relationships with colleagues, students, and parents, even inviting former students to holiday dinners.
Rapid City benefitted from her involvement on the Black Hills Symphony Board, P.E.O., AAUW, Questers, and her church. However, the infrastructure of the city suffered from her infamous driving skills, much to the chagrin of Bob and their insurance company. She was known to have taken out fences, as well as both the handicapped parking sign and the brick Emmanuel Episcopal Church sign, referring to the latter as "a little fender-bender."
Living in Rapid City for 62 years, Doris cherished the relationships built through traveling the world, biking through the canyon, gourmet dinners, and weekly executive-course golfing with many dear friends.
"Grammy" loved spending time with her grandchildren, sledding, sleeping on the patio, cooking, and spending many hours sitting on bleachers watching sporting events. When her first grandchild was born, she vowed to never tell them no. Her perfect record was left mostly intact.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Becky Bettmann, Rapid City and Lori (Mike) Hahn, Sioux Falls, grandchildren Sara Hahn, Adam (Chelsea) Bettmann, Michael Hahn, great-grandchildren Addison and Garrison Bettmann and William and Claire Hahn, her brother Steve Scott, Greeley, CO, and a sister, Georgia Lee, Parker, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and sisters Norma Christerson and Linda Scott.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westhills Village for the kind and loving care she received. She loved you all!
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on March 22, 2024 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Rapid City, SD. In honor of Doris' love of Nebraska football, you are invited to wear red. Memorials will be given to the Black Hills Symphony and The Employee Academic Support Program through Westhills Village.
Arrangements with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
