Doris "Dory" Jean McAndrews (89) passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of June 16th, 2025 in Erie, CO. Memorial services will be held on July 2nd at 11:30am at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home of Rapid City. Burial proceedings will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis on July 2nd at 1:30PM.
For those interested, donations can be made in her memory to the South Dakota Nurses Foundation Scholarship Fund, which seeks to support students enrolled in nursing education. Donations can be made through the South Dakota Community Foundation website.
Dory was born on October 8th, 1935, in Flint, MI to Thelma and Kenneth Rose, and later married Charles "Mac" McAndrews on September 14, 1957, in Flint as well.
Dory dedicated her life to helping others and was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, MI, and went on to serve in many positions across several facilities and states. Most notably, she served as the administrator of Clarkson Nursing Home, and also worked in Home Health at Westhills Village, both of Rapid City.
Dory loved the Black Hills and loved to ski with her family at Deer Mountain in Lead, SD. She enthusiastically supported all the outdoor activities that her family loved. She was a very caring and loving grandmother. Often referred to as "Grandma Boat", she never missed an opportunity to have fun with her grandchildren.
Dory is survived by her two sons, Charles and Michael, her brother David Rose, and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles "Mac" McAndrews.
