RAPID CITY | Doris I. Stenson, 88, went to her Heavenly Home on March 2, 2017. She passed away peacefully at her daughters' home surrounded by her family.

Doris was born May 4, 1928, to Alfred and Borghild Gundersen in Staten Island, NY. She had two siblings: Norman and Vivian. After high school she graduated from the Manhattan Dental Assistant School and worked until marrying Stanford Stenson in 1952. She continued her education throughout her lifetime achieving many certificates and was so proud to receive her Associates of Arts Degree at Thiel College in 1987.

Her husband, the Rev. Dr. Stanford Stenson were married for over 63 years and he preceded her in death just 14 months prior. Doris lived her life proudly as a minister's wife, mother of four: Stephen, Brenda, Paul and Dan, and grandmother of six: Sofie, Charlie, Kendra, Owen, Eric and Evan.

Affectionately referred to as the "Butterfly Lady" she actively witnessed the hope, rebirth, and love of Jesus Christ throughout her life; sharing her joy with everyone she would meet.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 13, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
