Obituary

RAPID CITY | Doris B. Thompson, 86, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Rapid City Regional Hospital with family by her side. Doris was born on June 22, 1928, in Amorita, OK, to Victor and Georgia (Leatherman) Davis. She grew up in the Amorita area and attended Lampert High School in Lampert, OK. She married Ira Lee Thompson in Amorita. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Wichita, KS, where they lived for 10 years. The couple then lived in various places, including Rapid City, where her husband did field work for Boeing. They returned to Wichita, where she lived until 1995 when she moved to Rapid City to be closer to her son, Roger. She was active in the Strathaven Wesleyan Church in Rapid City for many years. In her 74th year, Doris began oil painting and created over 50 masterpieces. She will be remembered for being a loving mother and grandmother. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ira Lee; and one son, Jerry. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Cindy) Thompson, Rapid City, and Victor (Faye) Thompson, Rose Hill, KS; five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
