Doris Helen Wellman, 96, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Clarkson Health Care Center in Rapid City.
She was born Sept. 30, 1921 at Vienna, S. Dak., to Gabriel and Edna (Eggan) Ostroot. She graduated from High School at Vienna and after taking a Business Course she worked for the Standard Oil District Office in Huron, S. Dak.
In 1942 she received a Civil Service appointment to Washington D.C. with the U.S. Navy Dept. Doris married Jack Wellman January 8, 1946 in Washington D.C. They lived in numerous places while Jack served a full career in the U.S. Air Force. Jack served his last nine years in the Air Force at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Doris has been a resident of Rapid City since 1955. She was a member of the South Canyon Lutheran Church and The Canyon Lake Senior Citizens Center
Survivors include a son, Bill (Cindy) Wellman, Rapid City, two daughters, Jacqueline (Kenneth) Theisen, Minneapolis, MN and Diane (Tom) Manske, Pocatello, Idaho, five grandchildren, Jack Maixner, Jack (Stephanie) Wellman, Nick Wellman, Adriane (Conrad) Isaak and Karisa Manske and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack Wellman, a sister, Carolyn Hanchett and a grandchild, Christine Maixner.
Memorials have been established for South Canyon Lutheran Church and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 22nd, at the South Canyon Lutheran Church, 700 44th. St., with Rev. Roger Olness officiating. Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
