Obituary

Dorothy Ann Amick (Flannery), 92, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Peaceful Pines Senior Living Facility, Rapid City, South Dakota.

Dorothy was born March 11, 1934 in San Diego, California, the eldest child of John Clifford and Lois Estella (Cederlof) Flannery. As a child, she lived on various Naval bases in Florida, Hawaii and California. After her father retired from the Navy, they first lived in Placerville and then in Grizzly Flats, CA.

Dorothy graduated in 1952 from El Dorado County High School in Placerville, CA. She joined the US Navy after graduation and was trained at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as a Hospital Corpsman. Dorothy traveled the world as a Hospital Corpsman – Germany, Greece and Turkey are just a few of the countries she visited.

In 1962 she was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois where she met her future husband, Ronald C Amick. They married July 27, 1963 and to this union were born four children. They settled in Rapid City after Ron separated from the Navy in 1969. Ron died in 2021 after 57 years of marriage.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Ruthlee Hoehn and Clifford Flannery and niece, Julie Flannery.

Survivors include sons, Michael (Carol) Amick of Lead and Patrick (Stacey) Amick of Flower Mound, TX and daughters, Celia (Lowell) Carlson of Rapid City and Elizabeth (Steve) Maxwell of Blanco, TX. Grandchildren, Anja Carlson of Rapid City, Joel (Aspin) Amick of Salt Lake City, UT, Sean Amick of Orlando, FL, Leslie Amick and partner Matt Sell of Rogers, AR, and soon-to-be great-grandson, Carter Joseph Sell. Sister-in-law, Janet Flannery of California; nieces, Laura Flannery, Teresa and Tamra Simmons; grand-nieces, Candace, Jessica and Blair; and grand-nephew, Jacob.

Visitation will be from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm with Vigil Service at 6:30 pm, Monday, March 23rd at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd, Rapid City, SD.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 24th, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4500 Jackson Blvd, Rapid City, SD. Burial follows at 12:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery, 20901 Pleasant Valley Drive, Sturgis, SD.
