Obituary

Dorothy Evelyn Clements, 79 of Rapid City , South Dakota died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House.

Dorothy was born April 3, 1929 in Custer , South Dakota to Leo and Opal ( Duncan ) Harbach. Her family resided in Custer where she attended school. During WWII she married Carl Clements, a young Marine from Phillip , South Dakota . Carl and Dorothy were married in Wilmington , North Carolina . Eventually they established a home in Custer and started a family where Dorothy was a housewife and mother. In 1965 Carl and Dorothy moved to Hill City where Dorothy worked for the Hill City school system. In 1977 they moved to Rapid City . Dorothy started a long and enjoyable position with Sears and Roebucks, Dorothy started in the Downtown store and helped with the move to the Rushmore Mall. Dorothy not only enjoyed the work, but the chances to see and visit with the many friends and relatives that came through the store. Even after retirement, she continued her friendships with her co-workers.

Dorothy was active in the VFW Auxiliary, the Alter Society and the Catholic Daughters, where she held various positions. She enjoyed reading, cooking and the many trips over the years to Deadwood for gambling.

Dorothy took great pride in her family and her friends and enjoyed every opportunity to see and visit with both.

She is survived by: her husband, Carl Ernest Clements of 63 years, her children:

Mary Beth Friedman and her husband Ken, Pittsburg, California; JoAnn Madding and her husband, LW, Melissa, Texas; Cathrine Fierberg and her husband Jeff, Aurora, Colorado, Carl Clements II, Sheridan, Wyoming; Angela Kliewer and her husband Mike, Boulder Canyon, South Dakota,: Mark Clements and his wife, Jay, Arizona; Marjorie Chiles and her husband, Doug, Virginia

18 Grandchildren:

Nicole, Michelle, Pamela, Stephanie, Matthew, Jacob, Corrie, Jessica, Eric, Erin , Hollie, Andrew, Laura, Daniel, Emery, Emily, Amanda, Raymond

12 Great Grandchildren:

Nicholas, Christopher, Jason, Colton , Remington, Chance, Isabelle, Hannah, Devon , Noah, Isaiah, Julia

Her parents, Leo and Opal, a brother William and two infant sons, William and Gregory, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Church of St. Therese, The Little Flower, 532 Adams Street, Rapid City, SD , with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a .m. Tuesday, July 29, at St. Therese Church with Father Bill Zandri presiding. Internment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, Rapid City .

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Catholic Daughters. Catholic Daughters c/o St. Therese Church, 532 Adams Street , Rapid City , SD 57701 .
