Rapid City - Dorothy Ardell Ficken, 73, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Fountain Springs Health Care where she had resided for the last 22 months. Dorothy was born July 7, 1936 in Clark County, SD to William and Stella Thies. She was the middle of three daughters. Wayne and Dorothy were married November 1, 1954. Since November 1 is the opening day of deer hunting, they usually spent their anniversary stomping thru the Black Hills looking for the Big One. Dorothy will be remembered for her kind heart and giving nature. Her grandchildrens memories are how special grandma make Christmas, especially with the large variety of baked goodies. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, parents William and Stella and sisters, Alice and Audrey. Survivors include her daughter, Pam (Sam) Parrish, Anchorage, AK, sons, Bill (Rise) Ficken and Doug (Traci) Ficken, Rapid City and Scott Ficken, Dallas, TX. Grandsons, Jason (Brenda) Gervais, Sioux Falls, Matt Gervais, Anchorage, AK, Brad (Kelsie, Steven, Kevin and Cody Ficken, all of Rapid City, great grandson, Chase Gervais, Sioux Falls, nieces, nephews and cousins. All of Dorothys family and friends meant the world to her. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 14, at First Congregational Church, 1200 Clark St., with Rev. Ted Huffman officiating. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
