RAPID CITY- Dorothy Gardinier, 96, Rapid City, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Golden Living Center- Bella Vista. Dorothy was born January 29, 1916 to Mae and John Aalfs in Akron, IA. She moved to Sioux Falls after high school and met Bud Gardinier. They were married on August 14, 1939 at Sioux City, IA. Dorothy was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church (60+ years) serving on the board, circles, and helping in any way she could. Her flair for color and decorating took her in the direction of making draperies in a small shop in her home and her love of cooking extended to opening a small restaurant where she had many regulars. Bridge became a routine part of her life and she had several clubs she belonged including one for over 40 years. She moved to Rapid City, SD in 2004 to be closer to her daughter and husband. She was living at Golden Living Center - Bella Vista at her time of death. The family wishes to express our deepest love for the staff of Bella Vista. Their kindness, humor, dedication and professionalism were way beyond the norm. They have unique gifts that help so many people. Dorohty is survived by her daughter, Pam (Rocky) Darger, three grandchildren: Scott (Barb) Darger, Waunakee, WI; Thad (Danyel) Darger, Sturbridge, MA; and Melissa (Mike) Flentie, Evans, GA; eight great grandchildren: Hunter, Alyx, Kylee, Payton, Chandler, Bradyn, Drew, and Reagan, and nephew Bob (Virginia) Patterson). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers (Edsel and Vincent Aalfs). Per Dorothy's request, no memorial service is planned.
