Obituary

RAPID CITY- Dorothy (Dodee) J. (Haley) Evans, 76, Rapid City, died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Clarkson Mt. View Health Care Facility due to stroke complications. Dorothy was born June, 26, 1934 in Sturgis, SD to William (Silvers) and Bertha (Grace) Haley as the youngest of eight children. As a young girl she moved from Hereford to Sturgis with her family and attended Sturgis schools. On August, 8, 1953, in Rapid City, Dodee married her lifelong partner and love, Merlin (Bud) Evans. In their union, two daughters, Cindy and Dixie, were born. Dodee lived for the love of her family -her husband of 57 years, her two daughters ,and her grandchildren. She loved to laugh, go shopping, play cards and spend time with her family. Family was her life and she lived it every day. Dodee stayed home and devoted her time to raising her two daughters and being actively involved in their activities. This carried on as she became extremely active in her granddaughter Billie Dawns schooling at Kibben-Kuster School. In 1974 they purchased Cork n Bottle Liquor Store and owned & operated that until 1986. Survivors include her husband, Merlin Bud Evans, Rapid City; two daughters: Cindy (Koenig) Hansen, Minnetonka, MN; Dixie (Tom) Stephens, Rapid City; one brother, Richard (Judy) Haley, Puyallup, WA; one sister, Edna (Jack) Smith, Union Center, SD; six grandchildren: Billie Dawn Koenig, Minnetonka, MN; Guy (Julie) Koenig, Clover, SC; Troy (Erica) Koenig, Victoria, MN; Nicki (Jed) Folkens, Shakopee, MN; Austin (Erin) Stephens, Beresford, SD; Destiny (Justin) Crane, New York, NY; and five great grandchildren: Meg, Paige, Joey, Hailey, Kinsley, and two more expected to arrive in March 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Francis Haley, Robert Haley; three sisters: Mary Sturm, Alice Fisher, Belva Main; and one son-in-law, Don Hansen. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Harold Delbridge officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD. A memorial has been established for the Rushmore VFW Post 1273.
