Dorothy C. Kies, 97, of Rapid City, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Clarkson Health Care.
Dorothy was born on July 9, 1919, in Moody County, South Dakota, to Cecil and Della (Eberline) Warnstadt. She grew up in Brookings and attended school there.
She married Kenneth J. Kies on December 1, 1939, in Brookings. The couple moved to Rapid City, where she has resided since.
Dorothy was employed as a secretary at the Cooperative Wool Growers Association in Brookings, at Seeley's Tailors, the Visitor's Bureau of the Chamber of Commerce in Rapid City and she was a Deputy Auditor for Pennington County, retiring in 1986.
Dorothy was active in the local Republican Party and held several offices. She also belonged Republican Ambassadors, Republican Women and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America for 67 years.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Kathryn (David) Levy, of Canon City, CO and Mary Jo (Terry) Danielson, of Billings, MT; 4 granddaughters, Marsha, Melanie, Misty and Kristin and 6 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1982 and 4 sisters, Mildred, Eva, Beulah and Iva.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 19, from 2:00-4:00 pm, with a 4:00 pm Christian Funeral Vigil and Catholic Daughters Ceremony at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Christian funeral mass will be offered at 2:00 pm, on Friday, Jan. 20, at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Brian Lane presiding. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the church parish hall.
A memorial has been established.
