Obituary

RAPID CITY | Dorothy Marie Nielsen, daughter of Glen and Fern (Schultz) Myers, was born July 13, 1931, on the farm in Charles Mix County. She died peacefully with her son at her side Friday, April 8, 2016, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Dorothy received her elementary education at a country school in Charles Mix County and Wagner Elementary School, graduating from Wagner High School in 1951. She married Niels Nielsen on June 11, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner, SD. Two children were blessed to their union, Jacqueline and Jonathan.

Dorothy and Niels moved to Rapid City shortly after Niels' service in Korea and discharge from the Air Force. They made Rapid City their home for the rest of their lives.

Dorothy worked at Country Estates and Flowers by LeRoy for several years. She was very gifted in arranging flowers and decorating in general. She was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church.

Dorothy will be remembered for her gifts of hospitality, cooking, baking, gardening and love of life and her grandchildren. Thankful for sharing her life are her son, Jon and wife Teresa and three grandchildren, Logan, Hayden and Marin, all of Rolla, MO; brothers, Bob (Bonnie) of Rapid City, Lowell (Mary Ann) of Rapid City, and Roger of Yankton; sisters, Verna Wood of Yankton and Barb (Lars) Sorlien of Lake Andes; her "adopted" sister, Jean Ann Crosby of Rapid City and her dear family; and her "adopted" son, Pat (Joanne) Coady and their dear girls of Rapid City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Niels on March 15, 1996; daughter, Jacqueline on August 17, 1979; her parents and in-laws; brothers, Harvey, Glenn Jr., and Merle; and sisters, Blanche Jewel, Laura Nelson and Jacquline Myers.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the Silver Sneakers Senior Program at the Rapid City Athletic Club.
