Obituary

Jesus reached out his hand and said come with me and with that, Dorothy took Jesus hand and went with him. Dorothy M. Ostrander was born March 16, 1927 in East Hartford, Connecticut to Joseph and Maria DiBartolomeo and died February 17, 2010 in Rapid City, South Dakota surrounded by her children. Dorothy met her husband, Russell Ostrander in East Hartford, Connecticut, when Russ was stationed in the U.S. Navy. They were joined in marriage February 3, 1951. In 1952 Dorothy and Russ moved to Rapid City, Russ hometown. They were blessed with five daughters. Dorothy was a stay at home mom until her last child was in school and then went to work as a bookkeeper with Russ at his business, Royal Wheel Alignment. They retired in 1984. Dorothy and Russ enjoyed attending antique car tours with their 1926 Lincoln. Russ passed away, October 28, 1994. Dorothy was devoted to her catholic faith. She was a past president of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Altar Society, she was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Circle and she was a Eucharistic Minister serving the homebound. She served in her community as an on-call volunteer for Hospice of the Hills and was a member of the Rapid City Does Drove #33. Spending time with her family was Dorothys greatest joy. She is survived by her five daughters, Donna (Ray) Barck, Roma (John) Herbst, Susan (Rex) Eagleton, and Mary (Lee) Blodgett all of Rapid City and Toni (Alvino) Davila, Black Hawk; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ in 1994; great-grandson, Royal Mullin in 2009; and her two brothers. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 21 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of a Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 22 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with the Rev. Tyler Dennis presiding, assisted by the Rev. William Zandri. Burial will be with her husband at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. A memorial has been established for the Rapid City Regional Hospitals Hospice of the Hills.
