Obituary


Rapid City – Dorothy E. Parker, 94, Rapid City, died Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Golden Living Center-Prairie Hills.

Dorothy Elizabeth Salo was born January 19, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to Sam and Hilda Salo, they then moved to Cortland, Ohio where she married Harold Merrifield and they lived there, until she moved with her husband, and daughter Paula, to South Dakota in 1959.

Dorothy worked at Ellsworth Federal Credit Union at Ellsworth Air Force Base until she retired. She married Charles Parker in 1972.

She loved sewing and made several dresses and flower girl dresses for her great-granddaughters. She was also a wonderful baker making everyone special decorated birthday cakes. She was also on several bowling teams over the years and loved fun trips to Deadwood.

Survivors include her daughter Paula Hyde and her husband Marvin; granddaughter Nichole [Steve] Hyde Nanto; grandson Gregory [Colleen] Hyde; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two husbands: Harold and Charles.

Inurnment will be at 10:00 am Thursday, December 1 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Rev. Sharla McCaskell officiating. Family and friends should meet at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard,  at 9:00 am on Thursday for procession to the cemetery.
