RAPID CITY | Dorothy Sime, 94, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Clarkson Health Care Facility. Dorothy E. Sime was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Meadow, SD, to Albert and Gertrude Lowe. She graduated from Lemmon High School in 1938. Dorothy and her husband, John C. Sime, were married for over 28 years until he passed away from cancer in 1966. Dorothy was a stay at home mom in Meadow until 1942 when she moved back to Rapid City and then on to Deadwood where she and her husband managed a gas station. In 1951, Dorothy and her family returned to Rapid City where she first worked for Newberry's and then Kmart. She retired from Kmart at the age of 65 in 1983. After retirement, Dorothy enjoyed bowling, completing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and working on crossword puzzles to keep her sharp. Her family kept her very busy with their various activities and she rarely missed the opportunity to support them. She also played an active role in helping to raise some of her grandchildren. Dorothy's determination and her happy-go-lucky essence have touched the lives of many throughout her lifetime. Survivors include a daughter, Lyla Monello, Rapid City; sons, Jon Sime and Ray Sime, both of Rapid City, and Dennis (Sharon) Sime, Mesa, AZ; 15 grandchildren; 33 grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John; a baby boy who died at birth; five brothers, Wayne, Kenneth, Claude, Harold, and Keith; two sisters, Vivian Scoby and Alice Lowe; and a grandson, Tony Monello. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the family.
