Obituary

RAPID CITY- Douglas A. Anderson, 83, died at his residence on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. He was born on August 31, 1929 in Madison, MN; the son of Ole and Runa (Johnson) Anderson. Doug served in the US Navy from 1950 until 1954. He married LaVonne "Bonnie" Olson on August 14, 1954 in Appleton, MN. Following his military service, the couple moved to Rapid City in 1955. Doug was a plumber-pipefitter. He retired from the Rapid City School System in 1992. He was a Life member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge, Naja Shriners, Flag Unit, Canby Lodge #147, and Shrader Commandry #9. Doug was also a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church. He is survived by three daughters, Christine (Verle) Martz and their son, Nick, Scottsdale, AZ; Jennifer (Steve) Volk and their daughter, Meghan, Rapid City; and Karen (Kirk) Richards, Redwood City, CA; great grandchildren, Aiden and Harper; five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bonnie, a granddaughter, Stacy Lemon; a sister Elizabeth, and brother, William. Services will be at 10:00 am., Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment with military honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund and the Calvary Lutheran Church.
