Obituary

Lake Norden – Duane H. Ohlrogge, 88, was reunited with his bride (Betty) in heaven on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020 at the Avantara Lake Norden Nursing Home in Lake Norden, SD.

Duane was born May 7, 1932 at Chamberlain, SD to Alma (Kiehn) and Albert F. Ohlrogge. He was the third child of ten. He attended school at Pukwana, SD and graduated from Pukwana High School May 17, 1950.

Duane married the love of his life, Betty L. Lien on October 19, 1952. They moved to Pukwana. He worked on a farm outside Chamberlain until 1953 when Cathy was born. They moved to Brentford when Mike was born in 1956. In 1957 they moved back to Chamberlain. Denise was born in 1958 and Anita was born in 1960. Duane started working for South Dakota Fish and Game until 1963 when he bought a truck. During this time Duane had the opportunity to move to the Black Hills to haul livestock. Michele was born in 1965. At that time, they joined the Black Hills Egg Producers in which they cared for 1200 to 2400 chickens and they sold the eggs. In 1976 they sold their permit to haul livestock. After they sold their permit, they worked for Samons Trucking located in Missoula, MT. Duane and Betty drove the country together from 1972 to 1982.

Duane then drove for the Tri Mac Trucking in Rapid City, SD. He received numerous Safety Driving Awards. He retired in 2003. Together they raised lots of puppies: English Setters, English Cockers, and Shelties. They loved their dogs and took great pride in raising them.

Duane and Betty were married 64 years. Duane is survived by his five children: Cathy Hemsher, Mike Ohlrogge, Denise Cayton, Anita Ohlrogge and Michele Acre; 21 grandchildren and spouses; 30 great-grand kids and spouses; and 5 great-great-grand kids. He is also survived by two brothers: Ray (Donna) Ohlrogge and Larry (Michelle) Ohlrogge; one sister: Linda (Kevin) Schoep; one brother-in-law: Jim Taylor, and one sister-in-law: Shelli Ohlrogge; and numerous nieces and nephews and family.

Duane was preceded in death by his bride Betty; three grandsons: Brian Ohlrogge, Aaron Cayton, and James Hemsher, his parents Alma and Albert Ohlrogge, sisters: Norma (Paul) Timmons, Pat (Robert) McGee, and Judy Taylor, and brothers: Albert (Mary) Ohlrogge, Delos Ohlrogge, and Wes Ohlrogge.

Duane was deeply loved and will be missed by all.

Due to the corona virus 19, a celebration of life will be celebrated in April 2021.
