In Loving Memory

Dwight Henry VanderPol, 80, of Black Hawk S.D passed away at his home on Friday, May 4, 2018.

Dwight was born on August 1 , 1937 at home in New Holland SD, to Henry and Ruth (Buckles) VanderPol. He graduated from Corsica High School in 1955. School and work went together. At the age of 15, on the last day of school, he drove a 1946 Ford truck with a combine on it along with his father's crew to Oklahoma to work the wheat fields. After graduating highschool, he went to work for Brinks Construction Company, building electrical power lines in SD, ND, NV, and CA.

On December 28t h 1956 he married Bonnie Bordewyk at the Corsica Christian Reformed Church. In 1968, they bought a farm near Harrison, SD., where they raised their two sons Todd and Travis, and resided until 2002. They were members of the CRC church where Dwight served as Deacon, Elder, and taught Sunday school. In 1972, Dwight opened Corsica Redi-Mix and Trucking and operated the Redi-Mix until selling it in 1991. Dwight continued to truck with his son Travis, until his retirement. He loved the sound of an eighteen-wheeler.

In 2002, they moved to Black Hawk, SD and built their retirement home amongst the pine trees of the Black Hills. They joined South Canyon Baptist Church where Dwight gave his testimony and was baptized by immersion. They were blessed by many new friends and kept in touch with the old ones. He and Bonnie made many trips together and spent many winters in Florida. Dwight thrived on love, laughter, and hard work. Dwight never spent a day of his life in the hospital and chose to spend his last days at home under the care of his wife Bonnie. Even so, he finished his earthly life strong and graciously; he continued to be the source of his family's strength.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie, their two sons Todd of VA, Travis (Dawn) of SD. Seven grandchildren Tanner (Cierra), Maggie, Mitchell (Sarah), Tate (Sara), Kariann, Tayler and Harrison, three great grandchildren, Faith, Madison, and Ophelia. Sister Dolores, two brothers Douglas (Marlene), Mark (Darlene) in Florida. Two brother in-laws Keith (Delia) in CO., Curtis (Jan) in VA, two sister-in-laws, Myrna Alsum and Faye Aalsma in WI. Along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
