IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edith Keena
Boulter
July 21, 1931 – June 23, 2025
Edith K. (Edie) Boulter passed away on June 23, 2025. She was born on July 21, 1931 in Greeley, CO to Drs. EE and Ruth W. Keena. She graduated from Greeley High School and the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BS in Business Education. Later that summer she married Robert (Bob) Boulter also of Greeley. The family eventually settled in Rapid City, where Edie immediately got involved in both neighborhood and her kid's school and extra curricular activities, various bridge groups and AAUW.
As the kids were growing up, she was anxious to revive her career and worked for Rapid City Public Schools as a substitute teacher in the business departments of both Central and Stevens High Schools. She took an investment course at BHSC and her passion was ignited. She joined Piper Jaffray & Hopwood becoming Rapid City's first woman stockbroker. She had an enjoyable and successful career with Piper Jaffray for more than 28 years before, moving over with UBS. She retired from UBS 3 years later as VP of Financial investments, but trading stocks was her passion and focus.
She worked with a wide variety of clients over the years and was committed to helping families transfer their portfolios to the next generation. She frequently spoke at various investment groups and was following the market up until her passing. She found the relationships she developed with clients exciting. "I like people and I enjoy working with them, which was the key to my success and longevity."
In addition to her family and her career she was passionate about snow skiing. She first skied in high school at Berthoud Ski Area in CO and was anxious to pursue it when the kids were old enough. Her life changed on December 24, 1968 during that first run down Stewart hill at Terry Peak. From then on, she was on the slopes almost every weekend from November to April. The family took at least one ski trip every year and she had skied most areas in the Western US. Her favorite mountain was Aspen and she and friends made a week-long trip every year. She joined The Company Skiers and had amazing trips to New Zealand and Chile and several resorts throughout the Rocky Mountain region. She made her last run at Terry Peak at the age of 87.
When the snow had melted, she would join family and friends at Pactola or Angostura Lake every summer. She famously refused to get in the water (or waterski) until the 4th of July when the water was "bathtub" temperature. The family also travelled during summer vacation and we fortunately have a room full of pictures and movies to remember all the great times.
She spent numerous weekends hiking through the hills with friends. She loved being outdoors and the Black Hills were her forever home.
Edie is survived by her son, Jim Boulter and daughter, Janet Boulter. Nephews Gary Reynolds and David Reynolds and six great nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister (BIL) Stan and Louise Reynolds and nephew Dean Reynolds all of Albuquerque, NM.
Per her request there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
