Obituary

Edna Mae Estes was born in Houston, Texas, on December 25, 1925. She always said, "The stork didn't bring me, but Santa did."

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, James David Estes, her parents Ellis Yett Ball, Lola Mae Watts and her stepfather Jesse Shroyer, her brother William Christie Ball, and a granddaughter Tara Ann Chapman.

Edna was a devoted mother and grandmother who took pride in her family. She is survived by two daughters: Ann Ochse and spouse Roger Ochse of Tucson, Arizona, and Lana Chapman of Rapid City, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Weston Ochse and wife Yvonne Ochse of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Melissa Chapman and fiancé Ryan Wiedebush of Tucson, Arizona, James Daniel Ochse of San Mateo, California, Mary K. Ochse of Queensland Australia; three great-grandchildren: Zachary Ochse of Las Vegas, Nevada, Alexandra Alexander of Pooler, Georgia, and Tynan Ochse of Austin, Texas, as well as nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends who will all miss her fiery spirit here on this earth.

Edna enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and frequently out fished her husband David. She and her husband took several fishing trips to Canada, Minnesota, and the Columbia River. At home, she liked to work in her flower gardens, and during the winter she selected new varieties of her favorite flower the Iris for spring planting. She liked playing the slots and poker in Deadwood and bridge with "the girls." Edna loved basketball, especially the Duke Blue Devils, and could tell you the stats on most players. As well as basketball, she liked watching many other sports including football and tennis. She was a woman with strong opinions, always insisting on doing things "her way."

Memorials can be given in Edna's name to the Rapid City Shriner Travel Fund 4091 Sturgis Rd., Rapid City, SD 57702.
