Obituary

RAPID CITY- Edna M. Stevens, 75, passed away Tuesday March 12, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital with her husband, son and mother by her side. Edna was born on August 26, 1937 in Highmore SD to Jim and Rose Middleton. Edna lived in Highmore until the age of 18, and then moved to Rapid City to go to school and be closer to her mother. Edna attended Greens Beauty School where she began a 57 year career as a beautician in Rapid City. Edna's work ethic and love of her clients kept her from retiring from a job she loved. Edna thought of each and every one of them as family and was often known for taking them to the store, lunch or breakfast after an appointment. In 1955 while attending school she was also a Junior Hostess at the USO, where she met the love of her life Robert Stevens. Steve and Edna celebrated their love and were married on December 20, 1958. Steve and Edna adopted their son Mike in November of 1970. Edna was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter and grandmother. She would often go without so her family wouldn't have to. Her family will cherish the memories of Edna's love and devotion. Edna not only loved her family, friends and job; she also had a passion for cooking (there was nothing better than dinner at mom's house), was an avid reader and loved camping, fishing or anything that put her in the outdoors. She also loved gardening and you could always see her face light up when her roses bloomed. Edna is survived by her husband, Steve, Rapid City; one son, Mike (Jen) Stevens, Hulett, WY; her mother, Rose Whyte, Rapid City; her brother Jim (Margaret) Middleton, Anniston, Alabama; seven grandchildren Lacee, Kylie, Ramsey, Shane, Morgan, Brandon and Josh; and two great-grandchildren Zaide and Rilee She was preceded in death by her father Jim Middleton and step-father Jack Whyte. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Monday March 18, 2013 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday March 19, 2013 at Osheim &Schmidt funeral home with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
