The road trip through life has come to an end for an incredible person. Edward Eugene Metz passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022, in Blackhawk, South Dakota. He was not famous or ever regarded for fundamental change in history. Despite that fact, he was more incredible than life itself. He was born in Keystone, South Dakota on July 13, 1950 to Virginia Bruning and Eugene Metz.
Edward grew up in the Hills feeding his wandering soul. He was once chased by a cougar and fell but managed to walk away alive. He took that moment to be great. Taking a chance, he moved to the wild west of New Mexico on a whim. He went right to work studying and graduated from a Los Alamos High School Hilltopper Class of 1969! He took the chance at a small technical college in Kansas City where he studied computers and programming. Little did he know what computers would mean to all of us in the future.
Later he found his wife, Sue Pacheco. They flourished in love and were married. Soon they had two daughters. The oldest is Jodi, and soon Jeniffer would brighten the lives of all. After the two divorced, Edward met and married Lucy Trujillo. Lucy already had her own children, and Edward worked hard to provide for his family with many construction projects all over New Mexico. He moved from hammer and nails to blueprints and crew.
Edward and Lucy had one child together, a son named Daniel. The blended family came together with love. Eventually new places and adventures awaited Edward and he and Lucy divorced. Feeling lost, he along with his son Daniel returned home to South Dakota and found his heart again. Life came alive with the two of them.
When Daniel moved away, Edward longed for companionship. Donna Hilton lit up his life and gave him purpose. Edward and Donna were everything to each other. They enjoyed riding his motorcycle or side-by-side through the Hills, going on many adventures together. He also loved spending his time creating things with woodworking. Edward was truly home and happy. Especially when Daniel moved back to South Dakota. Life could not be better.
Edward's life was at its most amazing; a proud father with his beloved Donna that was his whole world. Edward experienced many things throughout his life: some amazing, some forgotten, and at the end of the story, he will never be forgotten. He was a father and proud husband with a heart of gold and the only HERO IN THIS STORY.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Donna Hilton; son, Daniel Metz (Pam Winkler) of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughter, Jodi Romero of Tucumcari, New Mexico; daughter, Jeniffer Capert of Tucumcari, New Mexico; grandchildren, Austin Welch, Mercedes Welch, Samantha Romero, CJ Romero, Amber Romers, Christopher Romero, and 7 great grandchildren; brother, Brett Tuning of Rapid City, South Dakota; sister, Brenda Smith of Los Alamos, New Mexico; brother, Brad Tuning of Los Alamos, New Mexico; brother, Gary Tuning of Arizona; and brother, Edwin Metz of New Underwood, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog and faithful companion, Brandi!
He is preceded in death by his parents Virginia Bruning and Eugene Metz; sister Nan Manzanares; and brother Eric Metz.
