Edward William Schuh, a proud Wisconsin farm boy, Vietnam veteran, devoted Catholic, and deeply loved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 3, 2026, just after the sun rose. In that quiet morning light, Edward was reunited with his beloved wife, Theresa, as well as his parents, siblings, and others who have gone before him.

Edward was born on December 5, 1945 to Edward and Ottilia (Miller) Schuh, the 10th of 13 children, at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He graduated from Reedsville High School in 1963. His roots on a Wisconsin farm shaped the man he became. He was hardworking, humble, resilient, and most at home with his hands in the soil. He carried those values throughout his life, first in service of his country during the Vietnam War and later through a career dedicated to caring for the land on the Pine Ridge Reservation and serving others.

As a young adult Edward enlisted in the military and was awarded a Purple Heart after being honorably discharged from the US Army. Edward then attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. He later attended South Dakota State University for another bachelor’s degree in Range Management and Soil Conservation. He worked with the Washington State forest service and the Department of Interior - Bureau of Indian Affairs as a soil conservationist; a career that brought him to Pine Ridge, SD where his life changed forever when he met and married Theresa. Together they built a beautiful life and made Pine Ridge their home.

Their home was filled with daughters and a son, creating a lively household full of love, laughter, faith, and family. Over the years, that same home welcomed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through every season of life, Edward proudly embraced one of his most cherished roles: being “Papa.”

Edward found great joy in being outdoors and working around the property. He was never afraid of hard work and was happiest when tending to the land, completing a project, or spending time in his garden, which reflected so much of who he was; patient, steady, nurturing, and always willing to put in the work necessary for something meaningful to grow.

Edward’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply, the land he cared for, the lessons passed down, and the countless memories made within the home he and Theresa created together. He will be remembered as a proud veteran, a faithful servant, a devoted family man, and above all, a proud Papa. Though his passing leaves an ache that words can hardly hold and an emptiness that will be felt in every place his love once filled, there is comfort knowing that as the sun rose on his final morning, he was gently called home to God. There, he was welcomed into the arms of his beloved Theresa and reunited with the parents and siblings he had carried in his heart for so many years. There is peace in knowing that after a lifetime of faith, service, and devotion, he is finally home.

Edward will be greatly missed by his children: Jody Twiss, Julie Yellow Cloud, Jeannie Cuny, Thetna (Lionel) Weston, James Schuh, as well as two special daughters: Lynn Pourier and Suzette Brown: his grandchildren: Quent and Joseph (Zadia) Bourne, Cody and Jesse Ferguson, Catlin (Jordan) and Kyle (Kateri) Clifford, Alaina (Gerome) Gutierrez, Joshua (Peppermint) and Riley Yellow Cloud, Michael, Marlee, Lala, and Tiaunni Kelly, Kristin (Greg) Weston, Tori (Gabriel) Old Man, Jeila, T’Rese (Trevin), Jamesson, Joel, and Samantha Schuh; his great grandchildren: Quent, Carson, Molly, Tya, Mia, Adam, Ava, Ziya, Aiyanna, Amarri, Wylder, Lynx, River, Payson, Keegan, Gatlin, Rylan, Phoenix, Zepplin, Motley, Araya, Joshie, Samuel, Talayah, and Janayah; his brothers and sisters; Don and Leon (Carolyn) Schuh, Bernice Brochtrup, Corrine Staudinger, Florence Braun, Germaine (Bill) Hoyer, Irene (John) Nenahlo: brother-in-law: Lloyd Twiss; sister-in-law: Nancy (Bill) Mathes; and son-in-law: Gaylon Kelly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa (Merrival) Schuh, parents, Edward and Ottilia Schuh, Brothers: Harlan and Kenneth Schuh; Sisters: Alice Maney, Eleanore Brunig, and Mary Schuh; Brothers-in-law: Jon Maney, Kenneth Brochtrup, Norbert Braun, Paul Staudinger, Donald Brunig, Donroy Merrival; sisters-in-law: Joyce Schuh, Gloria Steinfest, Greta Brown, Ila Twiss, Bonita Merrival, Doris Clifford, and Lema Merrival, and numerous other loved ones.
