RAPID CITY -- Edwin G. Artz, 82, Rapid City, died at the Sturgis Regional Health Care Center, Saturday. Jan. 2, 2010. He was born Nov. 20, 1927 at Mina S. Dak., the son of Gerhard and Gertrude (Artz) Artz. Edwin was a graduate of South Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in Agronomy. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Ann Roth on June 22, 1953 in Aberdeen, SD. Edwin was employed with the Soil Conservation Service in Ipswich, Burke, Lake Andes and lastly, Rapid City. He retired in 1989 and was the Area Conservationist at that time. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also involved in Children's sports activities. Survivors include his wife, Ann Artz, Rapid City, two sons, Wayne Artz, Black Hawk, S. Dak. and Brian Artz and his wife Sue, Bismarck, ND, three daughters, Karen Dufek and her husband Stub, Sturgis, SD, Sharon Braun and her husband Burdette, Beaver Creek, MN and Stacy Deaver and her husband Scott, Brentwood, CA, four sisters, Lorraine Evelo and Gertrude Lingor, Aberdeen, S. Dak, Arlene Weinreis, Sun City, AZ and Caroline Walsh, Yankton, S. Dak, eleven grandchildren, Joni, Jeff, Dustin, Seth, Josh, Jessica, Jason, Samuel, Jordan, Eric and Weston, a great grandchild, Landri. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lambert Artz and Harold Artz and a grandson, Mathew Artz. Visitation was from 5 PM until 7 PM Tuesday, Jan. 5, with a Christian Wake Service at 7 PM, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Jan. 6th, at the Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Dan Juelfs presiding. Interment will be at the Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the S. Dak. Natl. Guard.
