Edwin Lewis Hubbeling, Sr.

RAPID CITY Edwin Hubbeling, 84, died on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.

Ed was born April 3, 1933, in Platte, South Dakota, to Andrew and Laura (Creamer) Hubbeling. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1951. He graduated from the School of Mines and Technology in 1955, with a degree in Engineering. He was an honored member of the Triangle Fraternity. He worked for several years in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, returning in 1964 to Rapid City to work for Pete Lien and Sons for the following 38 years, leading several divisions of that company.

On June 4, 1955, Ed was united in marriage to Janet Adeline Lees. Ed served in the U.S. Army for 12 years, achieving the rank of Captain. In 1980, he was the president of the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, a master gardener, and a long-time leader within the Boys Scouts.

Ed was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, and was active in the Terra Sancta Guild and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by four sons, Edwin Hubbeling Jr. (Cheryl), Rapid City, James Hubbeling (Sandi), Port Orchard, Washington, and Joseph Hubbeling (Wendy), and Charles Hubbeling (Julie Brockway), all of Fort Collins, Colorado; two daughters, Laura McClanahan (Michael), and Mary Larkin (Daniel), all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother, Andrew, Rapid City; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with Rosary at 6:40 p.m. and Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 21, at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Christian funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, September 22, at Blessed Sacrament. Mass will be followed by lunch in the Parish Hall. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
