Edwina M. Zacher, 77, went to be with her Lord and Heavenly family on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
She was born to Edward and Marie E. (Rivers) Traversie at Cheyenne Agency, SD. She grew up on the Andrew Traversie Ranch south of Timber Lake, SD. She loved horses, and, of course, her favorite pastime was riding horses. She is a 5th generation descendant of Chief War Eagle, a Mdewakanton/Santee Sioux.
She graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School. There she met and fell in love with her future husband, Jerome Zacher. After graduation she attended the Aberdeen (SD) School of Commerce. After completing school, she and Jerome were married in Eagle Butte, SD. They moved to Rapid City, where Jerome was a student at the School of Mines and Edwina worked for the IHS at the Sioux San Hospital as a secretary for the nursing program.
Their marriage was blessed with 3 children, Michael, Renee', and Jonathan (J.J.) She then stayed at home and raised their children and provided home daycare. Later she worked for a relative and the Rapid City School System for a spell.
She was also blessed with those special gifts called grandchildren; Megan, Katie, Jarrett and Michael, Jr., and great grandchildren, Kynsli and Charlotte. They were the joys of her life and she doted on them and helped take care of them.
She loved playing pinochle, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, sewing, quilting, canning the produce from their garden with her daughter-in-law Lorna, going out to lunch with friends, and most of all she and Jerry liked to go out dancing and do things together. Later on she enjoyed going to Deadwood and playing the slots.
She is survived by her loving husband Jerome; her children, Mike (Tracy), Renee', and J.J.; her grandchildren, Megan, Katie, Jarrett and Michael Jr.; great grandchildren Kynsli and Charlotte; her daughter-in-law Lorna; her brother Jerald (Joann) and family; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special people in her life, Carol, Sharyn and Johnny, Judy and John, Emilie, Mary and Roger, Karen and Jack, Rosetta, Dean and Devon, and Tim Traversie.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; a sister Joyce; 3 brothers, Donald, Kenny, and Gary, and a nephew Terry.
In lieu of flowers, her wish was a memorial to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678
