Obituary

Services for Elaine Freemore, 92, were held Saturday, March 21, 2009, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. She died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Elaine was born September 11, 1916 in Sisseton, S.D. to Albert and Emma Hanson. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1934 and from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1938 with a degree in English. She began her 42 year teaching career in Glenham, and later at Winner. She then moved to California where she worked at Benecia Arsenal an later taught at Seal Beach High School in Long Beach, CA. At the conclusion of the war she married Robert Freemore on October 4, 1945 in Long Beach. They made their home in Mobridge where she was a teacher. In 1969 the family moved to Aberdeen where she was the Elementary Library Supervisor for Aberdeen Public Schools until she retired in 1983. She moved to Rapid City in 1984 to be with her sister Bernadine. Here she was an active member of South Canyon Lutheran Church. Her faith was her compass. She served on many boards, enjoyed bible studies, belonged to Circle and volunteered for many church activities. She continued these activities in Rapid City and volunteered at The Chapel of the Hills. During retirement she traveled extensively, researched family genealogy, enjoyed family reunions, and volunteered in the community. Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Cari Freemore, Custer; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Robert Clough, Wasilla Alaska; two sisters, Gail Ulland, Salt lake City, Ut. and Marion Milburn of Ephrata, Wa. and one sister-in-law, Marion Freemore, Seymour, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, and two sisters, Bernadine Gliedt and Doris Godman. Burial was at the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 with the Rev. Tanya Rist Officiating. The family requests that memorial donations be made to South Canyon Lutheran Church, 700 44th St., Rapid City, SD 57702. Services were under the direction of Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
