Obituary

Eleanor H. Kath, 95, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Rapid City Regional Home Health Plus Hospice House.

She was born to John and Clara Schlotfeldt on December 10, 1923 and grew up on a farm near Lidgerwood, ND.

Eleanor graduated from Lidgerwood High School in 1942 and married Herman (Hemmy) Kath on July 28, 1943 in a small country church south of Lidgerwood. They raised their family in Lidgerwood and owned and operated various businesses throughout their years there. Eleanor had a particular love for women's retail clothing and owned her own business, K Fashions, for several years. During her years of raising their family, Eleanor felt a calling to serve the Lord in several capacities within her church, serving on the church counsel, teaching Sunday school and singing in the church choir. In addition, she sang at numerous funerals and weddings as a very gifted vocalist.

She and her husband moved to Rapid City, SD to be closer to family in 1990, where she continued working in women's retail clothing, a job she thoroughly enjoyed for several years to come. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She was a loyal mother and grandmother who was always there with a listening ear and a special prayer. She never forgot a birthday or a two-dollar bill for the numerous little ones, in which there were many, a tradition that was constant throughout the years. She baked the very best caramel rolls that were made with as much love as there was caramel.

Eleanor is survived by a sister, Joyce Klein (Darrell) of Breckenridge, MN; a brother, Kenneth Schlotfeldt (Margie) of Moorhead, MN; brother-in-law, Roger Kath (Mary Kaye) of Buffalo, MN; three sons: Gaylon Kath (Darlene) of Mesquite, TX, Keith Kath (Sheila) and Jeffrey Kath of Rapid City, SD; one daughter, Sandra Houle of Le Center, MN; along with 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herman; three sisters: Levine Schlotfeldt, Jean Schlotfeldt, and Shirley Schlotfeldt; one brother, Jack Schlotfeldt; and great-granddaughter Jessica Kath.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Monday June 17 at South Canyon Lutheran Church with the services to held at 10:00 am.

Private Family Burial Service will be at 12:00 pm noon at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

The family would like to extend a special thank you all of the staff at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House who provided such wonderful care these past weeks.
