RAPID CITY - Margaret Eleanor (Ellie) Frost died peacefully on Wednesday , October 17 , 201 8 , at Peaceful Pines Senior Living Community .
Ellie was born on June 21 , 19 32 in Milford , Michigan to Donald and Elizabeth (Elsie) Dunn . She grew up in Fenton, Michigan and attended Fenton High School , followed by St. Joseph ' s School of Nursing in Detroit. During her training, she met her beloved Hal and they married in 1954.
The young couple started their family in Denver, moving to Washington D.C. and eventually settling in Rapid City in 1960, where she kept very busy with their eight children. " Judybarbiejimmytimmymichaelsuzyjonnystevie " became a resounding call in the neighborhood. Ellie championed her children with verve, much like she did with everything.
Ellie was a doer and immersed herself in a myriad of community causes throughout the years. The Food Bank of Rapid City, 9th District/SD Medical Alliances, Boys Club and Children ' s Miracle Network were among her favorites. In 1988 she received the Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service. A constant throughout her life was her service at Blessed Sacrament Church. She loved the stage and acted in Group Theater (BHCT), organized " Ellie & Her Girls " and performed for years with the musical parody group T.R.A.S.H. She co-edited four cookbooks including The Weigh to a Doctor ' s Heart and The Appendix: It Had to Come Out. Ellie was a fun and funny lady. Her sense of humor permeated almost everything she did. Ellie loved to laugh.
She is survived by her children Judith (Rod) Lefholz of Rapid City; Barbara (Greg) Myers of Denver; James (Judy) Frost of Rapid City; Timothy (Debora) Frost of Rapid City; Michael (Jamie) Frost of Missoula, MT; Suzanne (Frank) Solano of Scottsbluff, NE; Jonathan Frost of Kalispell, MT and Steven (Natalie) Frost of Rapid City. Her loving grandchildren are Elizabeth Chapman, Sarah Trooien , Madeline Frost, Claire Schroeder , Robert Frost, Emily Ashley, Michael Frost, Daniel Frost, Libby Mylnechuk , Dominic Frost, Margaret Van Amburg, Andrew Van Amburg, Jacob Frost, Camille Andrews, David Andrews, Samuel Frost and Maxwell Frost. Her great-grandchildren are Kaydence, Aniah, William, Mia, Charlie, Leo and Troy. Ellie is also survived by her sister Mary Jean Reisedge of Fenton , MI and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents , brother Donald Jr. and sister Elizabeth.
Visitation with the family will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday , November 2 followed by a Christian Wake Service and Rosary at 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday , November 3 at Blessed Sacrament Church .
Ellie ' s family would like to thank the caring staff at Peaceful Pines. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Feeding South Dakota and The Club for Boys.
