Olathe, Kansas - Elmer V. Inich, 87, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Rapid City, South Dakota and Anacortes, Washington passed away on Saturday March 17, 2018 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
Elmer was born July 24, 1930 in Four Corners, Wyoming to Peter and Helen Inich. Elmer grew up in Wyoming with his three younger siblings, Dorothy Riesling, Chris Inich, and Max Inich. He met his wife, Eleanor Poppleton-Inich through their church in Newcastle, Wyoming. Elmer proudly served in the United States Army where he fought overseas in the Korean Conflict. After his return, he and Eleanor married on October 7, 1953. They raised four children, Charles Inich, Robert Inich, Douglas Inich and Susan Inich-Hernandez in Anacortes and Sedro Woolley Washington. Elmer worked at Shell Oil refinery in Anacortes, Washington for 30 years before his retirement in 1986. Subsequently, he moved to Republic, Washington where he and his wife opened and ran a secondhand store called Discovery and he enjoyed driving a school bus for after school activities. Elmer was a lay pastor for several years and throughout his life he served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher in various churches. Elmer was an avid outdoorsman and loved farming, camping, hunting and fishing.
Elmer was preceded in death by his three siblings and by his son Charles in 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, children Robert (Susan), Douglas (Vicky) and Susan as well as seven grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Inich, Benjamin Inich, Mark Inich, Holly Neblett, Mandy (Alan) Knapp, Joshua Inich and Jackie Inich and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am Monday, March 26, 2018 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City with Corporal Chaplain (Ret) Herb B. Cleveland officiating.
Graveside Services and Burial will be at 1:00 pm Monday March 26, 2018 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with Full Military Honors.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
