RAPID CITY – Elmer August Lindholm, 93, died peacefully at home on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

He was born on September 3, 1931, in Ludlow, SD to Fred and Martha (Hengstenberg) Lindholm. After graduating from Buffalo High School, Elmer served in the US Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged in November 1953.

He married Cheryl Rae Duncanson on December 27, 1963, in Wagner, SD. The couple lived in Rapid City, where Elmer worked for the Rapid City Journal for 33 years as a typesetter. Rapid City is also where they raised their two sons.

Elmer was a quiet man of few words and was never one to seek attention. But when he spoke, he often had those around him laughing and was often surrounded by family and friends. Elmer enjoyed spending time with his bowling leagues, attending baseball games with his sons, and when able to read with and dote on his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lindholm and son, Bruce Lindholm, both of Rapid City, SD; a daughter- in-law Tia (James) Lindholm of Longmont CO; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Lindholm of Orlando, FL, and Hannah (Steven) Hanff of Angleton, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred, and Martha; two sisters, Elsie and Esther; three brothers, Fred, Clarence, and Leroy; and a son Jeffrey.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff at Westhills Village for their friendship over the last ten years.

Services will be at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, 629 Kansas City St, Rapid City, SD.
