Obituary

Rapid City--Elsie A Biegler, 83, Rapid City, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Elsie was born on a farm near Wessington, South Dakota, on December 19, 1924. She attended Whiteside School and graduated from Wessington High School in 1943. Elsie taught at a country school for a year and was a civilian worker during WWII at the military base in Sioux Falls. Elsie and Warren (Friday) Biegler were married on October 2, 1948 in Huron, where she worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. They moved to Rapid City in 1954. She was employed at Black Hills Power and Light and the Internal Revenue Service and retired in 1988. Elsie loved to laugh and enjoyed life, especially holidays and family celebrations. Her heritage meant a lot to her, and she kept connections with her cousins in the Czech Republic. Elsie was a parishioner at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for over forty years, and her faith was very important to her. Survivors include her husband, Friday Biegler; her sons, Greg (Janine) Biegler, Rapid City and Jeff (Beth) Biegler Pontiac, MI and Tucson, AZ; her daughters, Christine (Cliff) Mumm, Philadelphia, PA and Laurie (Jim) Hemmer, Sioux Falls; her sister, Joanne (Stan) Humphrey, Michigan City, IN, and five grandchildren, Jacob Mumm, Abu Dhabi, Andy Mumm, Philadelphia, and Amanda, Allyson and Joe Hemmer, Sioux Falls. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna (Betik) Zvonek, her siblings, Wilmer Zvonek, Adela Brown, and Lydia Bose, and twin infant sons, James and John. Visitation will be today, from 5 until 7 p.m., with at Christian wake service at 7 p.m., at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Father Marcin Garbacz presiding. Interment will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday.
