Elsie Mettler, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Born to John and Margaretha (Weller) Heiser, Elsie was the youngest of 14 children. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Monte Mettler, her parents, two brothers, and eleven sisters.

Elsie is survived by her devoted husband, Merle Mettler; her son Jason and daughter-in-law Lori; and her cherished grandson Nicholas.

A kind and loving soul, Elsie was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who always thought of others. She had a deep love for animals, especially cats, and opened her home to many over the years. Her warmth extended to the kitchen as well—she was a talented cook whose meals brought joy to those around her.

Elsie found happiness in gardening and treasured time spent with her family. She shared a particularly close bond with her grandson Nicholas. Even after he moved away, she kept him close to her heart by carrying the phone with her so she wouldn't miss his frequent calls.

Elsie's kindness and thoughtfulness touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she graced. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

Private Burial Service will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery.
