RAPID CITY - Elvera Mary Minnie (Brockfeld) Bergsieker went home to heaven on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Born in St. Louis, Mo., on March 12, 1914, Elvera lived in St. Louis most of her life until moving to Rapid City in April 2006. She shared many happy hours with her new family at There's A Hart Assisted Living in Rapid City. Elvera was dearly loved by all who knew her. Elvera loved to dance and for nearly 66 years she danced with the love of her life, Phil Ernst Bergsieker. Phil and Elvera had three children: Phyllis Ann Boernke (husband Michael Andersen) of Rapid City, Richard Phil Bergsieker (wife Christine) of Houston, and Thomas Dean Bergsieker (1949-1968). Elvera has four grandchildren, Christine, Melissa, Ryan and Steven; and three great-grandchildren, Isabel, Xander and Katherine. Elvera was preceded in death by her husband Phil; her son, Tom, her parents, William and Amelia Brockfeld; and her brothers, William and Lawrence. Elvera was a devout Christian woman and an inspiration to many through her life of service to God and her fellow humans. A favorite Bible verse, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord," sums up her life and the teachings she passed on to her family. Elvera will be laid to rest with her husband and son in New Bethlehem Cemetery in St. Louis. Pastor Josh Jones of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church will conduct a memorial service at There's A Hart for friends and family in Rapid City at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Hills.
