Obituary

Emma H. Baumann, age is a number, and she said hers was "unlisted," of Rapid City, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born July 13, in Bowdle, South Dakota to Matilda and John Hoffmann. She was raised on a farm near Venturia, North Dakota and was educated in the public schools. While in high school, she began her teaching profession by helping teach the elementary children in their local country school. She graduated with a Master's Degree in Education from Northern State University. In August 1949, she married Richard V. Baumann. The couple resided in many locations throughout the years, primarily in Aberdeen, SD. Emma was an elementary school teacher teaching kindergarten for 35+ years. She moved to Rapid City in 1980 and in 1982 began working with her husband and son at Neugebauer's Fine Jewelry store. She was a member of Laureate Beta, Red Hats Group, Doll's Club, and many other organizations. She was active in the church and at the Canyon Lake Senior Citizen Center. Emma enjoyed gardening, antiquing, cooking, and volunteering at various community events and locations. She had a love for her family and friends and always went the extra step to make everyone around her happy. Survivors include her son, Richard J. Baumann, Rapid City; three grandchildren, Emily Baumann Leech, Rapid City, Michael Baumann, Rapid City, and Brooke Baumann, Las Vegas, N.V.; a brother, Reuben Hoffmann, Aberdeen; three sisters, Edna Dahlstrom, Hillsboro, N.D., Clara Kost, Ashley, N.D., and Gert Gesinger, Aberdeen. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Burial will be Monday, Nov. 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. ' The family suggests memorials to Youth and Family Services, Head Start Program, 1920 N.
