Obituary

RAPID CITY- Emma Mayer, 109, died at the Clarkson Health Care Facility on Monday, September 17, 2012. Emma was born February 2, 1903 on a farm near Leola in McPherson County. She was the daughter of Ludwig and Rosina (Kranzler) Job. Emma married Bernard Mayer in 1922 at Roscoe, SD. They resided at Roscoe following their marriage. Her husband was the Postmaster at Roscoe for a period of 30 years. Emma was employed as a Postal Clerk during the war. Following retirement, the couple moved to Mesa, AZ. They moved to Rapid City in 1976. Emma was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had been a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1937. Emma was a fifty year survivor of cancer. She enjoyed playing cards and participated in several bridge clubs in Rapid City. Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Maxey, Rapid City; Bernice Egge, Des Moines, WA; six grandchildren, Susan (Ed) Carson, Reno, NV; Marilyn (Brad) Arnold, Bremerton, WA; Deborah (Scott) Scholbe, Denver, CO; Mary Jo (Mike) Waters, Idaho Falls, ID; Jane (Jason) Sims, Sandy, UT; and Richard (Lisa) Evans, Rapid City; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; a daughter Vivian Evans in 1988; and a great granddaughter, Julie Jorgenson in 2011. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 23, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Doug Free and Rev. Peter Sulzle officiating. A memorial has been established. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
