Ernest F. Meiers,96, Bismarck, formerly of Rapid City, South Dakota passed way on July 13, 2019 under the comfort care of CHI ST. ALEXIUS.    Per Ernest's request, no service will be held.  Cremation has taken place and internment and private family service will be held at later date at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Ernie was born March 21, 1923 to Fred and Marcella Meiers in Rushville, Nebraska.  He graduated from Rushville High School in 1940 and participated in a local CCC program.  He enlisted in the U.S Navy, attended radio school in San Diego and served on the USS Essex in the Pacific during World War II.  He was a Life Member of the VFW, and served many years in their Honor Guard.

After the war, Ernie returned to Nebraska and began his career with the CNW Railroad as a telegrapher.  He married Patricia Olson in Belle Fourche, South Dakota in 1946.  He held various positions during a 37-year career with the railroad and retired in 1983.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening and spending time with family.  Ernie is survived by daughters Beverly (Conrad) Hillman of Bismarck and Debra Meiers of Sioux Falls, South Dakota;  Grandsons Matt (Deidre) Hillman and Nick (Nicole) Hillman, and three great grand children; Hudson, Harper and Olivia.

Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 2002 and his sister, Elsie Uldrickson.  The family expresses their thanks and gratitude to Edgewood Dominion for their care the past six years and to CHI ST. ALEXIUS for their great care and support.
