Obituary

Ethel Rose Sedevie, 86, formerly from Bowman, ND passed away peacefully Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Golden Living Center-Meadowbrook in Rapid City, SD. Funeral services are Friday, January 2, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Rapid City, SD, with the Rev. Brian Lane presiding. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. She was born January 17, 1928, in Bowman, North Dakota, the daughter of Mathias and Edith (Townsend) Paulson. She attended Gem grade school, a rural one room country school on the prairies of southwest North Dakota. She graduated from Bowman High School in 1945. Prior to meeting the love of her life, she worked at the Co-Op in Bowman and assisted neighbor farm families. On June 9, 1948, she married Lynn Sedevie at St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman. They would reside on the family farm that straddled the Bowman/Slope County line. They farmed and ranched the land that Lynn's family homesteaded. She was kept busy being a housewife and farm wife during her early married life. She and Lynn could often be seen dancing at local dances. In fact a request of hers upon her passing is that we would dance. In the late 70's they would move into Bowman, where she would work for Bennett Drug for 27 years. Lynn would succumb to cancer on August 21, 1990. Ethel would finally retire in 1998. After her retirement she would enjoy her time being a gamer, not a modern day gamer, but a card playing gamer; a Dominos gamer and Scrabble gamer. She wasn't always gracious in defeat! She also enjoyed caring for her yard, cooking/baking, researching genealogy on both the Paulson and Sedevie family, and her handiwork at cross-stitch and embroidery. She and her sister, Mary Lou (Thelma and Louise, as they were called by some) would often be seen together at functions in the community or touring around the countryside on their Sunday drives looking for the next church bazaar or good meal. Her main passion was her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; she lived to be in their presence. She endured some trying times but persevered with dignity and grace. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, LaDyne Sedevie, her brothers Paul, Floyd (Bernice) and Fred Paulson and brothers in law, Emery Peters and Allen (Eva) Sedevie. There have been nieces and nephews that also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters Lynda (David) Arithson, Buffalo, SD, LyNette (Les) Schaefer, Rhame, ND; her son Loren (Tricia) Sedevie, Rapid City, her grandchildren Heidi (Chris) Olson, Pierre, SD, Jason (Hattie) Arithson, Broadus, MT, Phoebe (Ross) Kuntz, Dickinson ND, Heather (Chad) Whitney, Murdo, SD, Kaitlyn, Tate and Ryland Sedevie, Rapid City, SD; her great grandchildren, Alexi and Nicholas Gusso and Elliott Olson, Pierre, SD, Austin and Grayson Arithson and Gunner and Bailey Bice, Broadus MT, Drew Arithson, Tallassee, AL, Blake, London and Irelynn Kuntz, Dickinson, ND, Alec, Gunnar and Bodie Whitney, Murdo, SD; her sisters, Mary Lou Peters, Rapid City and Ruth (Orand) Liebelt, Rapid City; her sisters in law, Sharon Paulson, Scranton, ND, Lois Sedevie, Minot, ND and Irene Paulson, Bowman; a brother in law, Darrell (Shirley) Sedevie, Minot, ND; a very special niece, Jennifer Liebelt, Rapid City; dear friends Marie Faris, Bowman and Tootsie Hanson, Rhame and numerous nieces and nephews.
